PM may not attend Olympics inaugural
New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been invited to attend the inaugural ceremony of the London Olympics on July 27 but may not be able to go because of pressing engagements back home.
The invitation from his British counterpart David Cameron comes as part of the normal protocol on such occasions, sources said.
The sources said the Prime Minister, however, may not be able to make it to London because of some ‘pressing engagements back home.’ The Prime Minister will be quite busy during those days as the new President will be in Rashtrapati Bhavan and the government will be gearing up for Vice-President’s election scheduled for August 7, according to the sources.
Bollywood director Karan Johar has also received an invitation to attend the inaugural ceremony.
The British High Commission here is also organizing a special live screening of the inauguration from London.
